I take issue with the comment denoucing your blog post. I think everyone knows there are hurricanes here from time to time, but there are also wildfires in California, avalanches in Colorado, and tornados in Texas.
I think it's better to paint a realistic picture of how to be prepared for any emergency. It helps to de-mystify the problem and reduces the emotional response by replacing it with practical advice.
I enjoyed reading your suggestions. Another thing one might want to pre-plan is who will represent victims in dealing with their insurance companies in the unfortunate event that some damage does occur. There are public insurance adjusters like us who are experienced at acting on behalf of the victims in situations such as hurricane damage.
